Red Rag - With the economy tanking, inflation soaring and the misery index showing virtually everyone apart from the bankers who fund the Conservatives absolutely pissed off, the last thing you need as the PM is to pick a fight with your own party.
Step forward David Cameron who has politically just loaded the bullets and decided to have a game of Russian roulette....with himself. For Cameron the vote in Parliament on an Eu referendum is the equivalent of kicking yourself in the nuts.
Just to make matters worse he tells his party that on the vote he is going to three line whip it against a referendum....then backs down within a few hours. He now has to side with the Orange Tories in parliament, which will inflame the Tory right even more, and campaign against the most vocal part of his own party.
It is an absolute lose/lose for Cameron. He wins the vote on the referendum thanks to the Orange Tories and some of the most sliest, media savy and biggest set of anti-Cameroons in his own party will want revenge. Lose the vote and he loses all leadership credentials inside Parliament and his party.
Quite what Cameron thinks he can get out of this is quite baffling.
As I have always stated, Cameron is brilliant at PR......at politics he is absolutely shit. Something like this was always going to happen, it was just a matter of time. At a time when the economy is heading towards a recession he has decided to start a Conservative Party in-fight. Whilst people will be losing jobs, companies close and people struggle to make ends meet the pro/anti EU strains of the Tory party will be publicly attacking each other.....what will voters think?
Sit back and enjoy the Tory Party tear itself apart and hopefully bring the end of the coalition ever closer.
Daves luck is running out.
