Coalitions real Health policy
Red Rag - "We have ring fenced the NHS budget" so said Cameron before the election. It was one of his big promises to show the Tories had changed. However, as his other big promises on Vat and Winter Fuel Allowance and Sure Start etc etc etc have gone, they were not worth the toilet paper they were written on - or the Tory manifesto as it is more commonly known.
One set of people seemed to have known this well before the public. That is the people who work in the NHS. Since the election NHS Trusts across the country have been cutting back extensively, not believing a single word The Sham has said.
Since the election there have been so many maternity units and Accident & Emergency units either shut down or cut back or have plans to do so, Thatcher and Hannan will be proud of how their party has scared the living hell out of the NHS.
Maternity units in Petersfield and Gosport, Solihull and High Wycombe have been shut. Sandwell Birmingham and Maidstone will lose their consultancy led maternity services at the start of next year.
Queen Mary in Sidcup closes it's A & E next month, as does it's maternity unit. The Queen Elizabeth in Welwyn Garden City closes it's A & E next month.Rochdale infirmary now only has A & E services for ten hours a day.Newark Hospital will have it's A & E downgraded at the start of next year.
There are seventeen hospitals across Leicestershire, Shropshire, Berkshire and Bukinghamshire have decided to close units but have yet to decide which ones.
So much for Andrew Lansley, Cameron, Clegg, Osborne and their ring fenced budget, when the people working below them do not believe there is one there, and are budgeting for the fact they have all been telling us lies from the start.
The NHS trusts are so scared about what is about to their budgets that they has not even been any public consultation regarding all these changes and shut downs.
Their ring fence is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
